A little bit about myself

For Albuquerque to become a model city, a city of compassion, one that other cities will want to emulate; one where city government practices the principles “of the people, by the people”; a city where everyone’s “voice” matters; one where “everyone enjoys the rights and freedoms that all of humanity is entitled to”.
I believe we can reach a place in Albuquerque where the sanctity of life is honored and where differences among our fellow citizens are celebrated, not targeted or penalized. I envision a city that strives to alleviate inequality and to let everyone know that they “count” and that there is hope.
I envision a city who through the proper administration of a true democratic government, requires that public officials be impartial and responsible to the people and that allows its citizens to have access to “petition the government for a redress of grievances”.

I have lived in Albuquerque since 1963. I have two children: a son who lives in Tuscon, age 28, mechanic and sprint car racer; my daughter, age 21, lives in Socorro and attends NM Tech, biology major, research assistant.
My mother lives here in Albuquerque; my father in Rio Rancho. She is disabled and retired from Civil Service. He is retired from the Army.
I have three brothers. I am the oldest. The next one in line lives in Florida and works as a systems engineer for a major aviation company. He is also retired from the Air Force.
The “middle” brother is a special ed teacher in Albuquerque.
My youngest brother lives in Rio Rancho: APD officer and officer in the National Guard.

Age: 53
Have been an advocate for the incarcerated, both working with inmates as an outsider on a professional level and from the inside as a fellow inmate.
I have been both an advocate for victims of domestic violence and a victim myself. I have some great solutions and ideas in regards to this city-wide epidemic. We need to treat the offender as well as the victim.
Since 1993 I have been in the “trenches” with the homeless, the working poor, troubled youth, the incarcerated, convicted felons, the at-risk, the disabled (primarily the mentally ill) and other disenfranchised populations living within Albuquerque.

I am best known in the City as the director of Youth in Transition, Inc.; a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization formed in 1995 to help the City’s street youth; youth unable to access other services. I am also known as a woman who speaks honestly and is known for my outspoken activism and commitment for all those in need.
Presently I live on disability income (my disabilities will not affect my ability to serve everyone as your mayor). Coming from a fairly traditional, middle-class background, I have experienced “normalcy”, but I have also experienced poverty and what a painful and degrading experience that can be.

I have seen and experienced, not only for myself, what is lacking in Albuquerque and what is needed, but have also seen these things in the eyes and lives of countless members of OUR city. Remember, if we all pull together to help the less fortunate, it benefits everyone and the city as a whole.
Let’s talk. Let’s strategize together for the benefit of ALL of Albuquerque’s citizens; not the mayor’s (a servant to the people) city but OUR city. I would appreciate and if given the chance, look forward to working for ALL of you as your next Mayor.
I think it is so important to insist on the “recognition of the inherent dignity and the equal and inalienable rights” of everyone in Our city, “with the understanding that these recognitions are the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace” within Albuquerque.

Right now, I am looking for supportive venues and money to pay for adverting. quickly,$600, and we can put in a small ad in the CNM Chronicle, the Daily Lobo (UNM), and the Alibi.
Need help “manning” the polls on early election days (now-Sept.29, 8:30-4:30)and on election day (Oct. 6).
Have been both invited and included in some tv and print media. Thanks to those responsible to those who have shown an interest. Have been both invited and excluded from several debates/forums (and these are just the one’s I know about. Remember to let people know I am a REAL candidate. Certified. Have to abide by all the rules, regulations, reporting guidelines as the candidates who made it on the ballot (darn, we got close).
